Graduate College Fellowships
The University of Iowa Graduate College offers fellowships to incoming Ph.D. students that will provide full stipend and tuition payment for four academic years. The nomination period for Graduate College fellowships is between January and mid-March with awards made on a rolling basis. Therefore we strongly encourage interested applicants to apply before or near the beginning of this time period to maximize the opportunity to receive a fellowship.
More information on fellowships can be found at the Graduate College website.
Graduate Research Assistantships
Many OEH faculty are engaged in research with grant funding that supports students as graduate research assistants (GRAs). These positions typically involve payment at a 25% (approximately $10,000 per year) or 50% level (approximately $20,000 per year) as well as tuition payment (approximately $5,000 per two semesters). A GRA appointment is typically obtained from a student’s advisor and is dependent on his/her current grant funding.
Pilot Grant Funding
The Department has three funding mechanisms to support Ph.D. research through one-year pilot grants. The budgets associated with these grants can contain funds to support a GRA appointment for a student. However, these grants are given on a competitive basis from a limited funding supply and so are not guaranteed sources of funding.
The following Centers provide one-year pilot grants to Ph.D. students:
