Admission Requirements

Admission Requirements for M.S. Degree Program

  • Minimum cumulative grade-point average: 3.0
  • Minimum GRE score (verbal + quantitative): 299 (or 1050 for previous scoring)
    (If the GRE was not taken, the department will consider scores from other standardized tests such as the MCAT)
  • A background of science, mathematics, or health sciences is recommended, although our students come from a variety of undergraduate majors.

Admission Requirements for Ph.D. Degree Program

  • Minimum cumulative grade-point average: 3.25
  • Minimum GRE score (verbal + quantitative): 302 (or 1100 for previous scoring)
    (If the GRE was not taken, the department will consider scores from other standardized tests such as the MCAT)
  • Coursework in the biological, physical and mathematical sciences provide an important background and are highly recommended

To be accepted as a Ph.D. candidate, you must receive the written endorsement of a faculty member in the department willing to act as your dissertation advisor. You are strongly encouraged to contact and visit faculty in the department who conduct research in your area of interest prior to submitting an application.

International Applicants

International applicants are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and must score at least 600 paper-based, 250 computer-based, or 100 Internet-based; or 7.0 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with no subscore lower than 6.0.
