Cost & Financial Aid
The amount of tuition paid by a student is affected by a number of factors:
- Resident status as determined by the University of Iowa Registrar's Office.
- Course delivery mode. Off-campus course tuition is assessed in addition to tuition for courses taken on-campus. The current tuition for MPH students enrolled in distance education classes is available on the Center for Credit Programs website. Students with a mixed load of on- and off-campus courses will be assessed distance education rates for off-campus courses and on-campus tuition will be assessed for on-campus courses. Total tuition cost for a semester is calculated by adding both figures together.
- Students enrolled in an official combined degree program will pay additional fees up to $1000 per year based on MPH course enrollment.
- The number of credit hours of enrollment taken each semester. Tuition and fees are based on a sliding scale dictated by the number of credit hours of enrollment. MPH tuition per semester (including mandatory fees) for the 2011-2012 academic year for on-campus courses is as follows:

Students who enroll in more than 9 s.h. of on-campus classes do not pay for additional hours of on-campus enrollment. However, students who have a mixed load of on- and off-campus classes will not see a savings unless their on-campus hours total more than 9 s.h. Distance education classes are billed separately and do not count toward the 9 semester hours for tuition savings.
Financial Support
MPH students must expect to pay for their own tuition, fees, and living expenses from their own resources. Students can pursue a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) position once they begin coursework. Scholarships
Students can be considered for Opportunity Scholarship Awards once they've applied to the program. Students can self-nominate upon admission. In addition, MPH tuition awards are offered each semester for current students, after completing 9 semester hours of MPH coursework. Individuals must be nominated by their department or the MPH program to be considered. Selection will be based on multiple factors including financial need, academic achievement, and student characteristics that will enhance diversity to our program. Nominations are solicited annually after the start of the fall semester.
