News Briefing On "Cancer In Iowa: 2004"
WHAT: the annual "Cancer in Iowa" report issued by the State Health Registry of Iowa, based in the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Iowa College of Public Health
WHO: Charles F. Lynch, M.D., Ph.D., UI professor of epidemiology and medical director of the Iowa Cancer Registry, will present the report findings. George Weiner, M.D., a participant in the Iowa Consortium for Comprehensive Cancer Control and director of Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UI will speak about laboratory research and clinical trials.
WHEN: 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004
WHERE: Seebohm Conference Room, 283 Eckstein Medical Research Building (EMRB), on the UI campus. Parking lots located near 283 EMRB are: (1) Hospital Ramp I. Walk east along the north side of the General Hospital to reach the EMRB entrance; and (2) Newton Road parking lot. Walk south past the Medical Education and Research Facility to reach EMRB.
"Cancer in Iowa: 2004" is the State Health Registry's latest report on the status of cancer across Iowa. The report includes estimates of cancer diagnoses and deaths in Iowa for 2004 and lists the most common types of cancer. This year's report includes a feature on the Iowa Consortium for Comprehensive Cancer Control.
In addition to the physician-speakers, one or more individuals who have made lifestyle changes to ward off cancer and/or participated in a cancer screening are scheduled to be available for comment.
Copies of "Cancer in Iowa: 2004" and CD-ROMs (for reporters only) of maps/figures from the report will be available at the conference. A question-and-answer session for reporters will be held after the brief presentations.
