UI Environmental Health Sciences Research Center nets $7.9 million
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences has awarded the University of Iowa Environmental Health Sciences Research Center (EHSRC) a five-year, $7.9 million grant to continue investigating environmental health effects arising from rural and agricultural exposures and serving as a primary environmental health resource.

UI College of Public Health Honors Two Outstanding Alumni
The University of Iowa College of Public Health has selected two new recipients for the 2012 Outstanding Alumni Awards. “Each year, the College of Public Health recognizes alumni for distinguished contributions to their chosen fields within public health,” says Sue Curry, Dean of the College of Public Health. “Through the Outstanding Alumni Awards, we are delighted to recognize these remarkable individuals for their professional accomplishments and for their dedication to the ideals of our College.”

Landmark UI Report Details Cost of Sexual Violence in Iowa
This year one in 35 Iowa women aged 18-44 will experience sexual violence, according to a new report from the Injury Prevention Research Center (IPRC) in the University of Iowa College of Public Health, the Iowa Department of Public Health, and the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation. In addition, more than 55,000 Iowans experienced sexual violence in 2009. Of these, nearly three of every four were female and one in 10 was under age 18.

State Health Registry Issues Cancer in Iowa 2012 Report
The latest annual report on cancer in Iowa estimates 6,400 Iowans will die from cancer and 17,500 new cancers will be diagnosed this year, according to the "Cancer in Iowa: 2012" report released March 28 by the State Health Registry of Iowa, based in the University of Iowa College of Public Health.

The graying of academia
Academic institutions should start making a more concerted effort to engage with and support aging employees as they continue to work well past the traditional retirement age, according to a new report from the University of Iowa Center on Aging and the TIAA-CREF Institute.
